Al Capone: My Research Project

By: Jessica Renee Holmes
For: Ms. Desmond's LA Class
This research project was the most difficult project I have ever worked
on in school.  I was afraid of the project at first, but then I read the book,
Capone: The Life and World of Al Capone, by John Kobler.  This book is
amazing because it tells the true story of Al Capone, and for the first
time, Al doesn't seem to be just a monster who killed people.  He was a
person who lived a tough, violent life and grew up doing the things he
learned.  He was a product of his environment.

A few years ago, I visited Alcatraz on a trip to San Francisco, and got to
stand in Al Capone's cell and hear his voice on a recording that he
made to tell the story of his life.  Even though I think what Al Capone did
was terrible, in many ways, I feel sorry for him.

I hope you enjoy my research project and presentation!
